Roman Lunch: Rimessa Roscioli
Sip, Savour, Repeat.
Nestled in the heart of Rome, Rimessa Roscioli is a culinary treasure that blends tradition, innovation, and impeccable hospitality. Recently, I indulged in their €55 Roman Lunch—a feast for the senses that showcased the best of Italian flavors, curated wine pairings, and a touch of culinary education. Here’s a deep dive into my unforgettable afternoon.
Walking into Rimessa Roscioli, you’re immediately enveloped in a warm, vibrant ambiance. The walls adorned with eclectic art pieces, a blend of rustic charm and contemporary flair, setting the stage for what promised to be a memorable experience. Our host for the day, Ronnie, a talented sommelier born and raised in Trastevere, greeted us with infectious enthusiasm and passion for his craft.
The Tasting- A Roman Romance in Five Courses
The experience started with a Sicilian premium olive oil and balsamic vinegars which i snapped up the last 2 bottles of because it was like heaven in a dish. Each wine was expertly introduced by Ronnie, with a gentle reminder that you don’t have to be a connisour to enjoy drinking wine! This lunch experience is for all who love to eat at drink and you will learn fascinating insights about origins, flavor profiles, and the winemakers’ stories. The experience includes a tasting of five exquisite wines paired with a dish to complement:
Sparkling Wine
Pedecastello from Veneto – Pedecastello is a line of natural sparkling wines crafted by winemaker Alex Della Vecchia in the Veneto region of Italy. The vineyards are situated near Belluno, at the foot of the Dolomites so you just know its going to be good. Bright, crisp, and the perfect aperitif to awaken the palate with a plate of Buffalo Mozzarella, Burrata and Pecorino cheeses.
Rosato Wine
Rosato Colli Aprutini C'è 2023, Massetti from Abruzzo- This wine is crafted exclusively from 100% Montepulciano grapes sourced from vineyards planted in 2014 in Colonnella, Teramo and it was 10/10! Elegant and refreshing, it paired beautifully with the artisanal cuts of meats.
Red Wine
Etna Rosso 2019, Valcerasa- This wine is from Sicily’s Etna region, produced by Alice Bonaccorsi. This wine is crafted primarily from the Nerello Mascalese grape, planted in the traditional albarello style, which involves dense planting to encourage beneficial competition among vines. Rich and full-bodied, with pepper notes to pair perfectly with the Cacio Pepe which is made infront of you at your table.
Red Wine
Ciuf Ciuf 2022, Calcabrina – An Umbrian wine produced by Fattoria Calcabrina. This wine is primarily crafted from Merlot grapes, with annual variations that may include other red grape varieties depending on the vintage. The “Cuif Cuif” name has an intresting strory which Ronnie told with great humour- i’ll let you hear it when you go! Rich and full-bodied, paired with the meatball polpette in tomato sugo.
Dessert Wine
Piemonte Brachetto 2023, Fabio Perrone – Sweet yet not overpowering, fragrant and aromatic with sharp hints of raspberries, cherries, and strawberries, a great choice to let the delightful coffee and liquor flavours in the tiramisù shine through.
A highlight of the afternoon was the short cooking demonstration. Watching Ronnie expertly prepare Cacio e Pepe, a classic Roman pasta dish was a masterclass in simplicity and technique. From the balance of Pecorino Romano to the perfect emulsification of the sauce, it was a lesson in how to turn humble ingredients into a masterpiece. When the plate of Cacio e Pepe arrived, it was everything I had hoped for—perfectly al dente pasta, a creamy, cheesy sauce, and a peppery kick. It was a quintessential Roman dish, executed flawlessly. The meal concluded with a homemade dessert: a tiramisù that was as light as a cloud yet rich in flavor. The delicate layers of mascarpone, coffee-soaked savoiardi, and a dusting of cocoa were the perfect ending to a spectacular lunch.
At €55, the Roman Lunch at Rimessa Roscioli is an extraordinary value. It’s more than just a meal—it’s an immersive experience that celebrates the art of food, wine, and storytelling. From Ronnie’s expert guidance to the impeccable pairings and delightful atmosphere, every element is crafted with care and passion.
